Alex Rodriguez Smashes 2 Homers in Yankees’ 5-4 Win over the Rays
Alex Rodriguez has a lot to prove in his comeback year with the New York Yankees and so far, he is doing everything right.
In the Yankees' Friday night game against the Tampa Bay Rays, Rodriguez smashed two homeruns and drove in the game-winning run to lift the Yankees over the Rays 5-4.
"We needed this one badly," Rodriguez said. This game was the Yankees' fourth win of the season.
Rodriguez's first homer came in the second inning when he belted a 0-1 pitch from Nathan Karns roughly 471 feet to center, the longest shot in the majors so far this season.
Rodriguez connected for his second homerun of the game against Ernesto Frieri in the sixth inning. The two-run drive tied the game 4-4.
Rodriguez is now two homeruns shy of tying Willie Mays' homerun record (660). Mays is currently fourth on the all-time list.
When asked if he was surprised about his start, Rodriguez said, "I am. Hopefully it keeps going."
"Without Alex we're going to lose that ballgame," Yankees manager Joe Girardi said. "Just a great night for Alex."
This game was Rodriguez's first multihomer game since May 23, 2012. Rodriguez did not play at all last season due to a drug suspension.
