Floyd Mayweather Jr. on Boxing: ‘I don’t enjoy boxing like I did’
Floyd Mayweather Jr. gave the media a glimpse of what they can expect for the upcoming, highly anticipated welterweight bout against Manny Pacquiao on May 2.
In this last scheduled public appearance held at his Mayweather Boxing Club, the 38-year-old fighter delivered body shots to a sparring partner. His partner wore body armor and did not fight back. Mayweather also worked out with a body bag and went through a series of exercises.
During this session, Mayweather also answered some questions from the press. When asked if he was worried about whether or not this upcoming fight would ruin his perfect 47-0 record, Mayweather responded by talking about his skill set.
"He's a future hall-of-famer. I am a future hall-of-famer and we are meeting at the pinnacle of our careers," he said. "From the match-up, it is going to be a very exciting fight. Our styles are totally different. I fight with smarts. Every move is calculated. Every move is thought about."
Mayweather also talked about the thrill of boxing and how, after so many years of fighting and winning, the thrill has disappeared.
He said, "I don't enjoy it like I once did. It is at a point where it is business. It is my job. I go to the gym. I train. I know what I have to do. There was a time when it was fun but I am to a point now where I am really over all of that stuff."
Mayweather previously signed a six-fight contract with Showtime. The upcoming fight against Pacquiao will be his fifth one.
Mayweather added that his "last fight is in September."
The welterweight bout is projected to be the most lucrative matchup in boxing history. Mayweather could earn up to $120 million while Pacquaio could pocket around $80 million. The fight will take place at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas.
