3D Robotics has announced a new drone, dubbed Solo. The drone isn't equipped with an integrated camera but a GoPro can be added to it easily. However, unlike other models that allow you to use a GoPro, it doesn't require you to purchase and install an expensive add-on kit in order to get a first-person perspective from the camera when in flight.

The afore-mentioned change/enhancement is a major and expectedly will appeal to pilots who prefer the flexibility of using a GoPro on a drone for one shot, and strapping the same camera onto a bike helmet for the next.

The new drone is powered by a dual Linux-based computers and is ready to fly out of the box. Solo is also capable of feeding power to GoPro making sure that the camera doesn't run out of juice mid flight.

Solo has also inbuilt features like take-off and landing, return to home, and planned flight paths via GPS. The drone can operate over a range of about half-mile and can fly for about 20 minutes with a camera mounted.

The Solo will go on sale in May for $999.
