Producer Harvey Weinstein not Charged after Groping Claims
Producer Harvey Weinstein will not be charged for allegedly groping an Italian model.
"This case was taken seriously from the outset, with a thorough investigation conducted by our sex crimes unit," said Joan Vollero, a spokeswoman for DA Cyrus Vance Jr. "After analyzing the available evidence, including multiple interviews with both parties, the criminal charge is not supported."
"We are pleased this episode is behind us," Weinstein's representative, Risa Heller, said.
22-year-old model, Ambra Battilana, claimed that the film mogul had touched her breasts inappropriately at his Tribeca Film Center office last month. She said that he told her he needed to check to see if her breasts were real. After he touched her, Battilana claimed that he continued to touch her even after she asked him to stop.
Despite these claims, for four days after the Italian beauty reported the supposed incident to the police, she refused to cooperate with the authorities. Instead, Battilana and her agent were reportedly working with one of Weinston's employees in order to cut a deal, which was supposed to involve a movie role.
"She didn't want to be interviewed by the Manhattan DA's Office. But once it became apparent that the movie role was just a pipe dream, then she went forward with the criminal case," a source has said.
Manhattan prosecutors finally interviewed Battilana at the beginning of April. The interview took place at the NYPD Special Victims Squad offices located in East Harlem.
After the interview, sources reported that Battilana'a lawyer dropped the case because she did not appear to be a "serious victim."
Weinstein is currently married to Georgina Chapman. They have a daughter, India Pearl and a son, Dashiell. Weinstein has three other children from his first marriage with Eve Chilton.
