Bungie Announces New Destiny Patch Details

Destiny developer Bungie has released new details about an upcoming patch to the popular hybrid MMO-FPS.

Bungie announced the coming changes in its weekly update. Among the most consequential of the changes will be how ammunition is distributed in multiplayer.

Previously, secondary ammo was plentiful, and heavy ammo also made regular appearances. This is about to change, due to the fact that secondary ammo was so plentiful that multiplayer was overrun by shotgun using players. The new patch will make ammo spawn less frequently, and take longer for a player to pick up.

Designer Kevin Yanes described the thinking behind the change by saying, "We wanted players to really think about how and when they should use their ammo. The hope is that you'll ask yourself questions like: Is this snipe worth it right now? Should I really shotgun rush these players? Should I conserve ammo until the next crate?"

Heavy Ammo distribution will also be changed. Previously, heavy ammo crates would remain on the map until a player collected it, now, the crates will despawn after some time.

While some players may or may not like these changes, one change that all players will greet with enthusiasm is the ability to "lock" exotic weapons so that they can not be accidentally dismantled.

In addition to mechanics, the patch will introduce a new aesthetic option. When in the Tower, players will now have the option of wearing their helmets. Currently, players in the Tower are animated without their helmets.

Bungie has not yet confirmed when the patch will be released.
