Taylor Swift Update: Her Mother has Been Diagnosed With Cancer

By Staff Reporter - 10 Apr '15 03:59AM

Taylor Swift shared on Thursday some grave family news with her fans - her mother Andrea Swift has been diagnosed with cancer.

Swift explains her mom wanted to share the news this way to encourage Swift's fans to talk their own parents about health screenings.

"She wanted you to know because your parents may be too busy juggling everything they've got going on to go to the doctor, and maybe you reminding them to go get checked for cancer could possibly lead to an early diagnosis and an easier battle. Or peace of mind in knowing that they're healthy and there's nothing to worry about. She wanted you to know why she may not be at as many shows this tour. She's got an important battle to fight," Swift wrote on her Tumblr page.

"Thank you for caring about my family so much that she would want me to share this information with you. I hope and pray that you never get news like this," she added.

The singer thanked her fans and also advised them to have their parents screened for cancer or other health problems. Taylor Swift has been very outspoken about her mother during interviews in the past by saying that her mother has been a friend that has always been there for her.

Since the news had to deal with Taylor Swift, her fans went to social media and #PrayForMamaSwift was trending.

The American Cancer Society recommends yearly mammograms starting at age 40, cervical cancer screenings annually starting at at 21, and colon cancer screenings for everyone at age 50.
