NFL Rumors: Patriots Interested in Landing OL Tre Jackson
The New England Patriots have invited Florida State offensive lineman Tre Jackson for a visit. The visit will be held on April 12, Jackson told Rhett Lewis, host of NFL Network's "NFLAM" program.
Jackson also revealed that he has visits with the Carolina Panthers and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers before adding that he is comfortable in different types of offenses and can play in "any type of scheme."
He added that he has been working with current NFL players, who include Detoir Lions guard Larry Warford.
Jackson said, "Every day I get a change to work out with him. After workout I'm trying to pull him off to the side and get little technique things he's using."
The Patriots is in need of a guard and Jackson is currently ranked as the No. 2 guard by ESPN. NFL media analysts Bucky Brooks and Lance Zierlein have Jackson ranked as the No. 3 guard. The Patriots also had success last season when they drafted Florida State center Bryan Stork in the fourth round.
Dante Scarnecchia, the former offensive line coach for the Patriots, was also present at Florida State's pro day. Jackson was one of the five linemen who worked out last week.
The NFL draft tracker's description of the prospect reads:
"Leverage and strength to stand and steer defenders in confined spaces. Stays flat-footed and balanced at point of impact in pass pro. Deliberate, controlled climb to second level. Power to jolt in his hands. Shows recovery ability when beaten in run game. In short pull, can find target, engage and seal. Aggressive play demeanor. Can take a stand when being bull-rushed."
"Honestly, I liked him much better last year. I definitely had him ahead of (teammate Josue) Matias coming into the season, but not anymore." an NFC Director of Scouting said.
Before the NFL draft, which takes place between April 30 and May 2, each NFL team is allowed to visit up to 30 out-of-town prospects.
