Asus has lunched an affordable and ultra-portable solution that brings the power of a PC with the Chrome OS to any screen with an HDMI port. The dongle, called Chromebit, will go on sale this summer for less than $100.

Chromebit, 'a computer on a stick' is a dongle loaded with an entire operating system and can be plugged into any HDMI port. The device is also WiFi and Bluetooth compatible.

In terms of specs, Chromebit is equipped with a processor, 2GB RAM, 16GB of storage and a USB port.

Conceptually the device sounds similar to Intel Compute Stick, which also acts as a mini computer (with Windows 8.1 or Linux) to be plugged into an HDMI port on any monitor or TV.

You can also connect a keyboard via Bluetooth or dongle's USB port, which would provide a complete PC setup.

Chromebit is also the logical follow-up to Chromecast, which brings content from a PC, smartphone or tablet with any operating system directly to the TV (streaming or downloaded videos, photos, games, etc.), notes Hindustan Times.
