Disney To Make Live-Action Remake Of 'Mulan'
Following the recent success of the live-action remake of the classic "Cinderella" starring Lily James, Disney is reported to have the 1998 film Mulan have its live-action version.
As reported by The Hollywood Reporter, the 1998 remake will take on the point of view of the Chinese legend female warrior, Hua Mulan as seen in the first cartoon movie. MTV said that Disney's treatment might be different as it will focus on the story of a woman warrior and not in its classic princess fairy tale.
Not much information has been gathered at the moment except that the upcoming project will be initiated by producers Chris Bender and J.C. Spink (We're the Millers).
The script for the screen play will be initiated by writing team Elizabeth Martin and Lauren Hynek.
Disney's remakes are said to have successfully reinvented the classics in-line with the taste of moviegoers as can be shown in the high box office sales of the Disney's recent live action films.
Cinderella, for example, has still remained on the Number 1 international box office spot this week with $336 million in three weeks, according to The Wrap. It is also considered as the second highest selling of the live-action remakes.
The Alice in Wonderland remake in 2010 had also made waves with its staggering $1.02 billion sales. And of course, Angelina Jolie's Maleficent also made an impression with its $758.4 million worldwide.
Beauty And The Beast is also expected to hit theaters on March 17, 2017 with Emma Watson and Dan Stevens. Also in included in the cast are Audra McDonald. The film will be directed by Bill Condon.
According to MTV, the 1998 Mulan has earned $304.3 million worldwide and received several Academy Award and Golden Globe nominations.
Mulan's character also did not vanish easily as it has appeared in the TV show "Once Upon A Time" played by Jamie Cheung.
