The Sound Of Music Still Sings In Its 50th Year
Even as The Sound of Music hits its 50th year, the actors of the star movie come together in Hollywood to go wild with some of the milestones of the 1965 musical that will become an evergreen. During her speech on the red carpet, Andrews, the 79-year-old heroine said to The Associated Press that she could not say why the movie had been so popular for so many years. Still, she added: "They all came together to make, I guess, a joyous family film, that's the best way I can describe it."
Added Plummer, 85, "We had such fun giggling away most of the time, trying to keep straight faces when singing close to each other ... She's such a great lady, Julie and such a great friend."
The 79-year-old actress looked radiant in a loose white blouse, black jacket and matching trousers when she came to the TCL Chinese Theatre in Hollywood, even as Christopher, 85, looked like a perfect foil in a black suit and blue dress shirt with dotted black tie, according to dailymail.
There was a restored version of the musical and it also opened the TCM Classic Film Festival running through Sunday.
Other actors such as Heather Menzies-Urich (Louisa), Kym Karath (Gretl) and Debbie Turner (Marta) have also joined the others.
During the anniversary celebration, a five-disc Blu-ray DVD collection will soon be released, along with the soundtrack's re-release and four new books about the film. This April, the film is going to be released in 500 theatres.
