Kate Middleton Makes Final Appearance before Birth of Second Child
The Duchess of Cambridge, Kate Middleton chose a bright pink Mulberry coat for her final public appearance.
Middleton, 33, and her husband, Prince William, 32 were seen in South London Friday where they took a tour of the Stephen Lawrence Centre "a place for community learning and social research, inspiring and motivating young people," according to its website. The royal couple was joined by Baroness Doreen Lawrence of Clarendon, who founded the place after her son, Stephen, was murdered at the age of 18 by a racist gang in 1993. Stephen had aspired to become an architect before his death.
Together, they met with the staff and volunteers of the center before seeing the Harris Academy law workshop in the lecture room. Prince William and Middleton also looked at Stephen Lawrence's architectural work and met his brother Stuart, sister Georgina and her 10-year-old daughter, Mia, who presented Middleton with a posy.
"It was a quite amazing visit," Doreen said reported by BBC News. "The duke and duchess spent a really good time talking to our young people and showed genuine interest in what they were doing."
Following the last stop of the tour, which involved an exhibition of work completed by the Architectural Bursary recipients, the Duke and Duchess signed the visitors' book. Middleton was also given a bouquet of flowers.
Prince William and Middleton also toured the Excel Project (XLP), which is a charity that helps young people from seven inner London boroughs. The charity, which was started in 1996, has grown massively over the years. It is now a £1.4 million - $2 million - charity that sees about 1,800 children per week.
"The kids were all really amazed by how warm and friendly the Duke and Duchess were," XLP founder and CEO Patrick Regan told Christian Today. "They said they had been to many showcases but hearing the stories behind where these kids have come from makes the performance even more powerful."
Middleton will no longer make any more official public appearances as she prepares for baby number two. Middleton's due date is in late April. Even though the baby, whose sex has not been announced, is still weeks away, Prince William reportedly cannot wait.
"William said he couldn't wait for the baby to be born - he said he wanted it now, he couldn't wait another minute," Parl Reardon, a spectator outside the charity, said reported by the Telegraph.
The royal couple already has one child together, Prince George.
