Target Spinach Recalled Over Listeria Claims: What You Need To Know

By Staff Reporter - 27 Mar '15 11:31AM

A batch of organic spinach by a California company that tested positive for Listeria has triggered a number of recalls this week.

Superior Foods, Inc., officials recalled 10-ounce bags of Simply Balanced frozen organic chopped spinach that are sold exclusively at Target stores when they were informed they might have received spinach with the presence of Listeria monocytogenes.

Symptoms of an listeria infection include: high fever, severe headache, stiffness, nausea, abdominal pain and diarrhea. Children, seniors, pregnant women and those with weakened immune systems are most at risk. Listeriosis can cause miscarriages and stillbirths among pregnant women.

About 1,600 people per year get sick from eating listeria-laden foods, according to the CDC.

Anyone who bought the product is encouraged to throw it away or return it to the store where it was purchased for an exchange or full refund. For questions, contact Superior Foods at 866-672-0811.
