Fifty Shades Of Grey Director Not Returning In Movie Sequel Due To Conflict With EL James
Fifty Shades of Grey director, Sam Taylor-Johnson will not be returning for the filming of the next two sequels. The director, in a formal statement, attributed her decision to some 'creative' conflicts that she had with Fifty Shades author EL James during the movie production.
"I'm not going to lie. We definitely fought, but they were creative fights and we would resolve them. We would have proper on-set barneys, and I'm not confrontational, but it was about finding a way between the two of us, satisfying her vision of what she'd written as well as my need to visualize this person on screen, but, you know, we got there," the director told Porter via US Weekly.
In another statement from Vanity Fair via Huffington Post, Johnson further added that she never quits in her past movie projects not unless she got engaged with a fight with another movie crew.
"I kept trying to remind myself that they hired me for a reason. Some people said to me, 'I'm surprised you haven't quit. "I was like, 'Why would you think I'd quit?' I never quit anything. Not without a fight."
Despite her decision, Johnson did not keep grudges and expressed she 'hugely grateful' of the opportunity. Further, she said that she enjoyed the friendship of the lead characters, Jamie Dornan and Dakota Johnson.
"I have Universal to thank for that. I forged close and lasting relationships with the cast, producers and crew and most especially, with Dakota [Johnson] and Jamie [Dornan]," she said.
In her statement, the filmmaker wished good luck to the filmmakers behind the next two sequels.
"While I will not be returning to direct the sequels, I wish nothing but success to whosoever takes on the exciting challenges of films two and three," she said as mentioned in Time.
Fifty Shades of Grey is said to have earned $558.6 million worldwide.
