Steven Spielberg to Direct Sci-Film 'Ready Player One'
Steven Spielberg is set to direct his next film 'Ready Player One' for Warner Bros. which is based on the award winning book of the same name. Zak Penn has written the script for Ernest Cline's popular sci-fi novel.
The studio had been trying to make a film adaptation of the book for a while now, with directors like Christopher Nolan and Robert Zemeckis showing interest in the project.
Spielberg should feel at home making this film since the book is full of references to some of the director's famous films from the past.
"We are thrilled to welcome Steven back to Warner Bros. We had an historic series of collaborations in the '80s and '90s and have wanted to bring him back for years," said Greg Silverman, president, creative development and worldwide production, Warner Bros. Pictures. "As for 'Ready Player One,' we have always felt that Steven was the dream director for this project."
Ready Player One revolves around the life of a youngster, Wade Watts who lives in abject poverty in futuristic Oklahoma. He escapes his bleak surroundings to enter a virtual world known as the OASIS, where Watts has to seek out a treasure left by the game's creator. In doing so, Watts finds himself in a treasure hunt against corporate foes and other ruthless enemies who will do anything to win.
Meanwhile Steven Spielberg's upcoming film The Bridge of Spies starring Tom Hanks is set to release in theatres this October.
