Bradley Cooper To Direct 'A Star Is Born' Remake; Beyonce Eyed For Lead Role
Bradley Cooper is recently having negotiations with Warner Bros to have his major role as a director and a producer for the remake of the classic A Star Is Born.
According to Deadline, this will be Cooper's directorial debut and the first time to become one of the producers under the banner Warners-based 22 Green wherein he will work with other producers Todd Phillips. Jon Peters, Billy Gerber and Basil Iwanyk.
Also, the American Sniper star will also take part in the making of the script primarily initiated by Will Fetters who is said to have written the recent draft.
With Cooper is American Sniper director, Clint Eastwood, who will also help him in the overall production and the selection of cast for the roles.
According to Variety, Eastwood is on the look-out for Beyonce Knowles in 2011 to play the lead role however the performer's pregnancy hinders her to take the role. Eastwood is said to have considered her for another film, Jersey Boys.
Deadline said that Warner Bros is still considering Beyonce for the role and is approaching her to take part of the project. The film, said to be one Warner Bros priorities, is also eyeing other actors Will Smith, Tom Cruise, Leonardo DiCaprio and Christian Bale to complete the cast.
Time said that Star Is Born first came out in 1937 with lead star Janet Gaynor who played the role of an ambitious starlet in Hollywood who became successful under the tutelage of a self-destructive, alcoholic actor played by Frederic March.
There was another remake of the movie in 1954 with lead stars Judy Garland and James Mason. In 1976, another remake came out with Barbra Streisand and Kris Kristofferson.
