'Modern Family' Sarah Hyland gets temporary restraining order after ex-boyfriend tries to choke her
Modern Family star Sarah Hyland has been granted a temporary restraining order against her ex-boyfriend Matthew Prokop, according to reports.
Sarah Hyland claims Prokop, whom she dated for five years until splitting this past August, choked her and was abusive throughout their relationship, according to TMZ.
The entertainment website obtained documents which Hyland notes, "His grip was so tight that I could not breathe or speak. I was scared and in fear for my life."
Sarah says she suffered injuries to her voice -- and had a "very sore throat following this event."
Hyland says she knew she was in an abusive relationship -- and asked her TV mom Julie Bowen to come to her house to help "peacefully end the relationship."
Hyland says she had purchased a plane ticket to send Matthew back to his home in Texas -- but when Matthew arrived to the home and saw Julie (along with others), he freaked out ... "ran outside into the backyard and began screaming."
After calling off the relationship, Hyland claims Prokop "relentlessly bombarded [her] with vile, threatening and emotionally disturbing texts and voicemails including his own suicide threats."
Following the split, Prokop posted a collage of photos of himself with Hyland via Instagram on Aug. 18 with the caption: "Farewell insta."
Hyland first met the actor while auditioning for High School Musical 3: Senior Year in 2008. They later starred together in Disney Channel's Original Movie Geek Charming in 2011.
