Lil’ Chris, 24, Found Dead After Depression Diagnosis
English singer-songwriter, Christopher James Hardman, mainly known by his stage name, Lil' Chris, has died. He was 24.
"Officers received a call from the ambulance service on Monday 23 March at around 11:45am and attended an address in Union Road following a sudden death of a 24-year-old man," a spokeswoman with Suffolk Police said. "A post mortem examination is due to take place to establish the cause of death and a file will be passed to the coroner in due course and an inquest opened."
She added, according to the Telegraph, "Police investigating the sudden death of a man in Lowestoft can confirm they are not treating it as suspicious."
Lil' Chris gained fame after appearing in the second series of the TV reality show, "Rock School." On the show, Gene Simmons from Kiss had to form a rock band with a group of classically trained teenagers from Kirkley High School in Lowestoft. Lil' Chris, who was 15 at the time, became the show's breakout star.
He then released a single titled "Checkin' It Out" and an album that reached number 54 on the UK chart. In 2007, he went on tour with McFly and in 2008, he had his own T4 show, "Everybody Loves Lil' Chris."
In 2013, Lil' Chris announced that he was working on a new album. He released a single with Lloyd Wilkinson called "Christmas Number One." Lil' Chris was reportedly working on a comeback. His last album was released in 2008.
"He was an outstanding talent and it was a pleasure to work with him. Our thoughts are with his friends and family," Allan Dodgeon, who managed Lil' Chris for one year, said.
"Sad to report Lil Chris from the Gene Simmons Rock School TV show, has passed on. He was loved. RIP, Lil Chris," Simmons tweeted.
The young star had been vocal about his thoughts on depression.
Two of his previous tweets read:
"I hope to one day create a way out of depression that doesn't mean taking your own life. The Cure."
"Depression really sucks. Learning how to notice it can save lives and your own feelings at times. Take time to understand it, for everybody."
Lil Chris' last tweet was posted on March 18.
