OKC Thunder Kevin Durant Out Indefinitely, Could Miss Entire Season
Kevin Durant's foot troubles throughout the season have finally caught up to him. The Oklahoma City Thunder announced that the reigning MVP would be prohibited from all basketball activities until further notice.
"I think the most important thing is to say that he's not going to be playing right now," general manager Sam Presti stated. "When he's healthy to play, and when he's able to return without that soreness, he'll be back on the floor. If that takes the rest of the regular season, if that takes the rest of the playoffs, that's what it's going to take. As I said before, the health and wellness of our players is the most important thing."
He added, "The goal is to get him back on the court healthy, whenever that is. The last thing on our mind is ever putting a player in a position to try to win a ballgame at the expense of their health. That's the furthest thing from our radar. Unless he's able to be back on the floor without soreness, he won't be back on the floor."
Durant suffered a Jones fracture in his right foot before the start of the season and missed 17 games. After making his return, Durant played in 27 games before he had to undergo an operation to replace a screw from the initial surgery that was causing pain.
Durant was then sidelined due to soreness in his right foot. Despite resting, Durant's soreness did not go away.
Durant was averaging 25.4 points with 6.6 rebounds and 4.1 assists in 33.8 minutes.
With Durant, the Thunder went 18-9 this season. Without him, they are 20-21. The majority of those games, however, came when the Thunder did not have a healthy Russell Westbrook. With Westbrook healthy and Durant injured, the Thunder are 15-11.
The Thunder (38-30) are currently ranked eighth in the highly competitive Western Conference. They will host the Atlanta Hawks (53-15) on Friday.
