Pharrell Williams Declared Fashion Icon Of The Year
Pharrell Williams has a new reason to be happy as he is chosen as this year's fashion icon as set by Council of Fashion Designers of America (CFDA). The announcement came out on Wednesday, Hollywood Reporter said.
According to Page Six, the fashion icon award, said to be given on June 1 at the Lincoln Center's Alice Tully Hall, is basded on the idea that an individual's fashion statement should significant impact on popular culture all around the globe.
"If cool was a person, it would be Pharrell, not just for his looks and sense of style, but for his kindness and openness. I cannot imagine anyone not seduced by him," CFDA President Diane von Furstenburg said in a statement.
Pharrell, who has succeeded in both music and fashion, has recent collaborations with Adidas, Moncler and Uniqlo. He also joined Cara Delevingne in Chanel's short fashion film, Hollywood Reporter recounts.
Aside from that, Yahoo mentioned that the 41-year old singer-producer co-founded the clothing brands Billionaire Boys Club and Ice Cream Footwear. He has also contributed to the designing of some jewelries and eyeglasses for Louis Vuitton. And he owns a New York City boutique.
Sources have now been speculating what the icon would wear in the event as Rihanna, who also received the award last year had shocked the crowd with her see-through Adam Selman dress.
In the previous years, celebrities like Johnny Depp, Lady Gaga, Iman, Kate Moss and Nicole Kidman have also received the award.
Meanwhile, Rap-Up reports that Pharrell Williams talked about his happiness in receiving the award on Twitter.
In his official account, he posted: "Wow. Thank you! ☺️@CFDA: And the 2015 Fashion Icon Award goes to... @pharrell! #CFDAAwards."
