Look What the Birds Seeds Grew as, ‘Cannabis Plant’

A woman grew cannabis plant from bird seeds and consulted the local radio station to identify her 'mysterious plant'.

Recently,  an Exmouth based pensioner Patricia Hewitson contacted the BBC Radio's Devon gardening program 'The Potting Shed' through Facebook after noticing a strange plant sprouting from the ground where she supposedly fed her bird some seeds. Hewitson sent the picture of the plant to the radio station and received quite an unexpected response. This incident alerted the local police who examined her house and found the seeds accidentally landed on the ground above the cage where she kept her birds to grow into a five foot tall cannabis plant.

Hewitson was not arrested or had to face any legal problems after the police authorities were able to confirm the she did not plant the illegal drug shrub deliberately. They instructed her to cut down the pot plant and dispose it off safely.

"I sent a picture in via email and I got a couple of interesting emails back, including one from the police. hey said they wouldn't prosecute me as I'd done it in good faith. We've been told we have to cut it up and either compost it, take it to the police station or take it up to the local recycling centre," Hewitson told the BBC, reports the Telegraph.

"If you come into possession of an illegal drug such as cannabis, you must either destroy it or take it to a police officer. The lady has committed an offence although there are mitigating circumstances so we would not look to take it further although we would take it away," said Sgt Ryan Canning, from Devon and Cornwall Police, reports the BBC.
