'Fashion Police' Update: Show Goes on Hiatus, Kathy Griffin Continues to Criticize the Show
Following much controversy, E! has announced that it is putting "Fashion Police" on hiatus. Two of the shows hosts, Kelly Osbourne and comedian Kathy Griffin have quit in recent weeks and co-hosts Giuliana Rancic faced retaliation after making - what many called - racists comments.
"E!'s comedy series 'Fashion Police' is going on hiatus and will return in September," the network said in a statement. "We look forward to taking this opportunity to refresh the show before the next awards season. Our talented co-hosts Giuliana Rancic and Brad Goreski, along with executive producer Melissa Rivers, will continue their roles as we evolve the show into its next chapter for the legions of 'Fashion Police' fans around the world."
Griffin announced that she was leaving the show last week, citing a "style" that "does not fit with the creative direction of the show." About two weeks before Griffin's announcement, Osbourne said she too was leaving to "pursue other opportunities."
During an interview on The View, Griffin said that "as a feminist and a comic, it just didn't feel like the right fit for me... I kind of felt like I was being forced to comment about pictures of beautiful women in perfect dresses and say kind of bad things."
"With the benefit of hindsight, we definitely brought it back too soon," NBCUniversal Lifestyle Networks Group president Frances Berwick told The Hollywood Reporter, referring to how quickly Griffin had been hired to step in to fill the void left by Joan Rivers' passing in September.
Meanwhile, host Giuliana Rancic came under fire on Fashion Police for saying that she thought Zendaya Coleman's hair must smell of 'patchouli' and 'weed' because she had dreadlocks when she attended the Oscars earlier this year.
