Robert Durst Trial Update: Held Without Bail, Police Found Marijuana, Gun in Hotel Room

Multimillionaire real estate mogul and  murder suspect Robert Durst was ordered held without bail Tuesday until his next court appearance while police raided his hotel room and found 150 grams of marijuana and a revolver, according to reports.

Durst, 71 years old, was arrested in a New Orleans hotel room over the weekend and faces a first-degree murder charge in Los Angeles for the death of Susan Berman. She was a friend of his, and was killed in 2000 with gunshot to the head.

He could face the death penalty under special circumstances that allege he ambushed her and murdered a witness to a crime.

Durst had previously denied the murder, but during a restroom break from shooting the HBO's six-part docuseries "The Jinx: The Life and Deaths of Robert Durst," he was heard muttering a confession to the murders. "There it is. You're caught!" Durst whispered with the sound of running water in the background. "What the hell did I do? Killed them all, of course."

Filmmaker Andrew Jarecki told Good Morning America that he didn't even know about the bathroom audio until much later, when an editor happened to hear it.

"It was so chilling to hear it," Mr. Jarecki said. "It was disturbing to hear it. It makes you very uncomfortable to hear it."

Robert Durst has also been suspected - but never charged - in the disappearance of his first wife in New York. In 2003, he was acquitted of murder in a dismemberment death in Texas.

Durst, whose New York real estate empire is worth about $4 billion, has maintained his innocence in three killings in as many states.
