‘Fifty Shades of Grey’ News: Jamie Dornan, Dakota Johnson Want $40 million EACH
"Fifty Shades of Grey" hit the box office jackpot and now the main stars of the sex-filled movie want higher salaries.
Earlier reports claimed that actor Jamie Dornan, who plays Christian Grey and actress Dakota Johnson, who plays Anastasia Steele, were seeking seven-digit salaries. Now, new rumors are claiming that both stars want $40 million each for the sequel, "Fifty Shades Darker." Sources reported that the actors have started their negotiations at $20 million.
Since the movie opened during Valentine's/Presidents Day weekend, it has grossed more than $500 million worldwide despite early bad reviews. Critics mainly complained about the lack of chemistry between Dornan, 32, and Johnson, 25.
Dornan and Johnson were reportedly paid only $250,000 each for the movie adaptation of the 2011 bestseller, "Fifty Shades of Grey," written by E.L. James. The sequels to the book include "Fifty Shades Darker" and "Fifty Shades Freed."
"Fifty Shades of Grey" made U.S. box office history when it became the biggest opening movie in February. It also had a lot of international success despite being banned in certain countries. The movie was directed by Sam Taylor-Johnson.
While Dornan and Johnson wait for Universal Studios to confirm the sequel, they will work on other projects. Dornan will appear in "The 9th Life of Louis Drax" and "Anthropoid." He will also reprise his role on the TV drama, "The Fall." Johnson will star in "Chloe and Theo" and "Black Mass."
