Dallas Cowboys Sign RB Darren McFadden
The Dallas Cowboys wasted no time to find another running back after losing DeMarco Murray to the Philadelphia Eagles. According to Charean Williams of the Fort Worth Star-Telegram, the Cowboys signed ex-Raiders running back Darren McFadden.
The two-year contract is worth up to $5.85 million, Todd Archer of ESPN.com reported. The deal included $200,000 in bonus incentives.
McFadden's agent, Ian Greengross, confirmed the deal on Twitter.
Cowboys owner Jerry Jones had his eye on McFadden during the 2008 draft. The Arkansas alum, however, went to Oakland, where he failed to live up to expectations.
In his seven-year career with the Raiders, he recorded 4,247 yards and 25 rushing touchdowns. McFadden's best season was in 2010 when he recorded 1,157 rushing yards and seven touchdowns. It was his only 1,000+ yards season. In 2014, the 27-year-old played in all 16 regular season games for the very first time.
McFadden also earned a starting position last year when veteran Maurice Jones-Drew, who is now retired, was injured. However, McFadden failed to produce and lost his job to Latavius Murray. He totaled 534 yards and two touchdowns. According to Archer, the Cowboys' strong offensive line can hopefully get McFadden to be more effective.
Archer wrote, "The Cowboys are hoping that playing behind an offensive line that features three Pro Bowlers (Tyron Smith, Travis Frederick and Zack Martin) and is considered one of the best lines in football will finally see him produce the way the Raiders expected when they took him in the first round of the 2008 draft."
McFadden has been training at the Michael Johnson Performance in McKinney, Texas.
