New Orleans Saints Update: Sign Cornerback Brandon Browner
The New Orleans Saints have landed cornerback Brandon Browner after the New England Patriots declined to pick up his option. Browner agreed to a three-year contract worth $18 million according to NFL Media Insider Ian Rapoport.
The Saints officially welcomed Browner, who they were reportedly interested in last year as well when Browner was a free agent, with this tweet:
Browner, who stands at 6-feet-4 and weighs 221 pounds, has played for the past two Super Bowl Championship teams. In 2014, he recorded 25 combined tackles and one interception during the regular season.
Before he joined the Patriots, the 30-year-old spent three years with the Seattle Seahawks where he totaled 117 combined tackles and 10 interceptions. Browner is known for being an aggressive player and is not afraid of going for the ball. His aggressiveness has led to both good and bad outcomes throughout his career.
Browner, who would have been due $2 million in roster bonus, is the second starting cornerback to leave the Patriots. The first was Darelle Revis, who signed a massive five-year deal worth $70 million with the New York Jets.
Browner tweeted his gratitude for the Patriots' organization.
The Saints have also re-signed backup linebacker Ramon Humber to a two-year contract. They traded guard Ben Grubbs to the Kansas City Chiefs reportedly for a fifth round draft pick.
The Saints have already traded away tight end Jimmy Graham to the Seahawks and a fourth-round draft pick in exchange for center Max Unger and a first-round pick.
The Saints went 7-9 this past season.
