At the event 'Spring Forward,' Apple announced a new open source project to help research into chronic health conditions.

The open source kit, called ResearchKit, will help researchers learn more about chronic diseases such as Parkinson's, diabetes, heart disease and asthma. The new tool will work alongside iPhone and HealthKit. It will help doctors gather more pertinent data from more patients more frequently.

"iOS apps already help millions of customers track and improve their health," said Jeff Williams, Apple's senior vice president of operations, at the event.

"With hundreds of millions of iPhones in use around the world, we saw an opportunity for Apple to have an even greater impact by empowering people to participate in and contribute to medical research."

"ResearchKit gives the scientific community access to a diverse, global population and more ways to collect data than ever before."

On the top of the list, Asthma, breast cancer, heart disease, diabetes and Parkinson's disease are present. Dedicated apps to monitor the afore mentioned disease conditions have also been launched, which can be downloaded from App Store.
