Harrison Ford Crash Update: Actor Bloodied and "Banged Up" After Piloting Fail [WATCH VIDEO]
Actor Harrison Ford has been hospitalized Thursday after getting in another one of his many aviation accidents by crash landing a vintage plane on a LA golf course.
A bystander was able to take a video of the single engine World War II- era Ryan PT-22 plane skimming Venice treetops before it suddenly vanishes, crashing onto the Penmar Golf Course, according to a video obtained by KNBC-TV .
Sputnik reports that the crash took place outside of Los Angeles, CA. The 72-year-old Hollywood icon is was initially said to have been in critical condition on arriving to the hospital. Bystanders said they had no idea that the pilot of the crashed plane was the iconic "Indiana Jones".
"Maybe because the blood was covering his face," golf course employee Howard Teba told KNBC. "To see his head and the blood all covering it; that was something."
"I put the towel underneath him to make him a little more comfortable. But the blood, it was a major gash on his forehead. ...He was truly, truly dazed," Teba added.
He is now said to be in fair condition.
Although a little "banged up," Ford's publicist said in a statement that the star is expected to make a full recovery, according to NY Daily News.
Miraculously, two doctors were playing golf at the time of the crash. They were able to treat Ford immediately at the scene.
Ford left the course conscious and breathing, according to Sputnik. Ford's injuries are reported to be cuts to his head. It is not known what other injuries he may have suffered in the crash landing. He was taken to UCLA Hospital for treatment.
The plane crashed shortly after taking off from the Santa Monica Airport after Ford was forced to make an emergency landing soon when his plane suddenly stalled, according to his publicist.
Ford is known for his passion for the skies, and this is actually not the first time he's been involved in a plane crash. In 2000, he crashed his plane as he was flying over the farmlands of Nebraska. Ford crashed again in 2009 as he was on a training flight.
Although in his seventies, the actor has continued to remain busy. Ford recently signed onto do a sequel to the iconic 1982 science fiction film Blade Runner. He also recently appeared in 2014's The Expendables 3.
In a press conference, Assistant Fire Chief Pat Butler, said that the passenger "suffered moderate trauma" after the plane hit a tree before suffering a "medium to high impact" crash landing. Butler added that the crash-landing was actually fortunate given the circumstances.
"We are very thankful that the passenger, from what appears right now, had moderate injuries, but also it was in an area ... that didn't impact any homes," Butler said. "These generally turn out quite traumatic but I can report that the patient left the scene conscious and breathing."
