Katy Perry Super Bowl News: "Hate" Banned Snoop Dogg from NFL Halftime Performance
Katy Perry revealed that she wanted to add Snoop Dogg to her Super Bowl XLIX halftime show, alongside her other two musical guests, Lenny Kravitz and Missy Elliot.
The pop singer revealed that the NFL immediately nixed her idea to include the rapper into her "California Gurls" performance. According to Perry, the league was concerned about the "hate" that Snoop Dogg would bring to the table. More specifically, Perry said in an interview with Elle magazine for the March issue that the NFL was not happy about the rapper's previous feud with Australian rapper, Iggy Azalea.
"Not that that was it -- that was just the tipping point," Perry said. "You can't have that kind of hate at the Super Bowl. They already have enough female-hate problems; they don't need any more."
Snoop Dogg insulted Azalea's physical appearance last fall. He also posted a profanity-laced video that insulted and threatened the female rapper after she retaliated. Snoop Dog later apologized.
The NFL has responded to these claims, stating, "We're on to Super Bowl 50."
Snoop Dogg's rep has not commented.
In the interview, Perry also talked about what it was like to relinquish a lot of control when she agreed to do the Super Bowl show.
"In my show, I am boss daddy. I am boss mommy. They call me Boss. Everything goes through my eyes; I call all the shots, 100 percent of it. With the NFL, I have to be accountable to several levels of red tape. There are many committees I have to go through for my costumes, the budgets of my show, every interview-everything, I have to report to somebody. So I am no longer the boss; I have to relinquish that control. We love this opportunity, but once you decide you're going to do the Super Bowl, you're gonna have no f***ing life for six months. It is the biggest thing. Anyone that's ever done it has been scared s**tless. You stay off the Internet for the five days afterward."
With the Super Bowl over, Perry is focused on making new music. She hopes to make an acoustic record and a dance record one day.
