'Silence' Air Date, Spoilers, News & Update: Martin Scorsese's Adaptation Gets A Vatican Premiere, What We Know So Far!
A premiere screening at the Vatican is set for "Silence," a new film by Martin Scorsese. This Red Carpet premiere is to be joined by 400 priests from the Vatican. The Pope is hinted to have a meeting with Scorsese at a different time.
The film "Silence" is based on a novel by Japanese author Shusako Endo. The story is about Rodrigues and Garrpe. They are two Portuguese Jesuit missionaries who were looking for their mentor Father Ferreira. The novel is set in the 17th Century when Christianity was banned in Japan. This forced Father Ferreira then to turn his back from his Christian faith.
"Silence" stars by Andrew Garfield who plays the role of Rodrigues and Garrpe is portrayed by Adam Driver. Liam Neeson is also part of the film to play the role of Father Ferreira. This is a 25 year work by Martin Scorsese and will now be on the big screens.
Meanwhile, the screening for "Silence" is to be held at the Pontifical Oriental Institute for the Jesuit. The director of the institute is reported to be in attendance together with 400 priests. There will also be other invited guests to join the film's premiere screening. The Pope however, is not expected to attend the said screening.
It is also reported that Scorsese has been drawn to the novel since he read the book in 1988. In fact Scorsese shares in a report that she has been working on the adaptation for 25 years. He expressed that he has always been fascinated by the religious side of things. He himself has been brought up in a religious family. It seems that "Silence" is one work that matters to Scorsese.
"Silence" is not the first for a religious adaptation by Scorsese. He once had adapted The Last Temptation of Christ which did not have a good feedback from the Vatican. This time has a different fate for Scorsese's latest work.
"Silence" is set to air on January 1, 2017.
