Warren Buffett Is 100 Percent Optimistic About America After Trump Win
Berkshire Hathaway CEO Warren Buffett is one of the biggest names that backed Hillary Clinton in the recent U.S. presidential election. In an interview, he speaks about what he thinks of America and the stock market after Trump won.
In a recent interview of CNN with Buffett, he was asked by Poppy Harlow if he supports Trump now, Buffett answered, "I support any president of the United States. It's very important that the American people coalesce behind the president. That doesn't mean they can't criticize him or they can't disagree with what he's doing maybe." He also added that Americans need a unified a country and that Trump deserves everybody's respect.
During the interview, Buffett shared why he wanted Clinton so much to be the next president. The most important reason was choosing the person that is likely to become the president who will minimize the chances of weapons of mass destruction being used. He related this Clinton's good qualities when it comes to temperament and judgment. Secondly, he said that having a prosperous country should mean that it's resources are used by its people. He, then, reiterated one of Clinton's platform to protect the working people to have a 40-hour work week.
Buffett is known as an eternal optimist, especially for having an opinion piece in the middle of the Great Recession. This makes it interesting when he was asked if he is feeling optimistic about America right now, and he answered, "a hundred percent."
Buffett pointed out that many Americans resented the wealth gap in the country and this is what made Trump win, but he expressed uncertainty that Trump can grow the economy by four percent as what was said in Trump's campaign. Buffett described this as "the math is too extraordinary." He said even said that Americans should be concerned about how better the two percent growth will be distributed.
When it comes to stocks, he wasn't surprised to see a sustained increase in the market. He even said that the concerns that stocks are likely to tank as an effect of Trump win were "silly." He even said that it has even made him wealthier as the Berkshire stock has popped.
The interview ended with Buffett confirmed that the divided America will soon be healed. "America is strong than that," he says.
