After two years, Benedict Cumberbatch is back for "Sherlock" season 4. After a long time of waiting, the creators of the show finally announced the release date for the newest season of the series.

The production for "Sherlock" Series 4 started last April 6, 2016 and the cast and crew wrapped up their production last August 2016. The series have three episodes which is almost equivalent to three mini-movies really.

The first episode titled "The Six Thatchers" is set to air on January 1, 2017. What a way to start the year. The episode was based on one of the 56 short stories about Sherlock Holmes written by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle titled "The Adventure of the Six Napoleons." According to The Sun, Sherlock is going to investigate murders connected to the breaking of six busts representing the French military leader.

The second episode titled "The Lying Detective" will show viewers the creative and witty Sherlock they love. In this episode, Sherlock is going to pretend to be sick to be able to set a trap that will allow a murderer to confess.

It seems as though everything is back to normal at Baker Street but the teasers for "Sherlock" Series 4 reveals a darker season. The sneak preview revealed that Moriarty is back again. The old casts are back-Martin Freeman as Doctor Waston, Amanda Abbington as Mary, Mark Gatiss as Mycroft, and Una Stubbs as Mrs. Hudson.

There's a line in the trailer that stated that everyone they care about is going to be in danger. The creators of the show revealed at Comic Con that this season is going to be darker and they left a cliffhanger to those who are wondering if there's going to be "Sherlock" Series 5 by saying "who knows if they will survive?"
