‘Madam Secretary’ Season 2 Finale Review and News Update: “Varitus” Ends on a Happy Note after Moving Through Twists
So, the curtains went down on the second season of the political drama "Madam Secretary" and it must be said that for the first time, it was all hunky-dory. Of course, the twists were there, but they added to the drama of the story and also prepared the pitch for the third season.
Beginning with Elizabeth, we see her position threatened as Mike B tells her that the White House is looking for her replacement. He explains that the US government has hired a company to examine three men who are being considered for the position. She takes it lightly and tries to laugh it off, but then confronts Russell Jackson.
Surprisingly, he does not deny the replacement rumor, leading her to question Dalton the next day. We see her getting pretty defensive about the recent developments, but he assures her that she is not being fired. In fact, he wants her to become his vice president.
Meanwhile, Stevie shows mature behavior and as parent, Henry also does a great job. She handles her relationship with Jareth like a sensible woman. When Henry tells her they were rushing into it and it was too soon, she tells him that she felt pressurized when he proposed in the crowded restaurant. She assures her dad that she will finish school and spend the summers with Jareth in London.
And the happiest moment of the episode was when Dmitri and Henry came face to face, with the latter identifying him positively. Dmitri's spitting and then hugging Henry must have brought tears to many eyes, for it was an emotionally charged moment. Add to it Matt's commencement speech about the unsung heroes. We could not have asked for a better finale.
An awesome episode in every right, it ended amazingly well, setting a groovy tone for the third season according to reports. It remains to be seen whether Elizabeth takes up the position of vice-president. How does Dalton prepare for his re-election and what if the truth about Buckley is revealed? There is so much to look forward to.
