Man City Abandon Pogba Chase, Targets his Juventus Teammate Instead
Manchester City's upcoming revolution under incumbent manager Pep Guardiola is going to get underway in 2016 and currently the club are trying to acquire as many new players as the incumbent manager wants in order to make the team the powerhouses of England and Europe. According to Pep's wishes, the club had tried to acquire the services of Juventus' midfield power house Paul Pogba for a rumoured fee of £80 million but according to latest reports in The Sun, the club has abandoned the chase and has instead shifted their focus to the club's Spanish striker Alvaro Morata.
Pep Guardiolo is reputed as a great talent spotter and he was impressed by Morata's show in the UEFA Champions League game between Juventus and Bayern Munich. Following that performance, Guardiola shifted his focus to the Spanish striker and Manchester City are now readying a bid for Morate this summer. Morata is going to be the back up striker to Manchester City star Sergio Aguerro and will replace Wilfred Bony in the pecking order at the Etihad in 2016-17 if the deal does go through. Guardiola likes a striker who is more mobile and can move into the pockets of space often left by opposition defenders and Morata's ability to do exactly that at a consistent basis has made him his top target for the summer. Wilfred Bony has not displayed that skill during his time in English football.
However, it is important to note that Morata's previous club Real Madrid has a buyback clause which can be triggered if Juventus decide to sell the striker and City are aware of that. The club representatives believe that if City pull out of the move for Pogba then Real Madrid might waive their buyback option and instead try to bring Pogba to the Santiago Bernabau in the summer. This year's summer transfer window promises to be an intriguing one.
