ICC Rankings released: Virat Kohli tops the List

After rallying Indian side to victory with splendid knock in the World Twenty20 against Australia, Kohli has added another feather to crown. On Tuesday Virat Kohli achieved the top ranked batsman status in the new release of ICC rankings. While Indian team by virtue of its consistent performances, comfortable rests at No.1 position in the newly releasedteam ranking list. Kohli was 24 points behind Australian opening batsman Aaron Finch before the World Twenty20.But after marauding knocks, he has totalled a staggering figure of 184 runs in four matches with an average of 92, maintaining an impressive strike rate of 132. This figure has given Kohli a clear lead of 68 points over the Aussie opener.

But RavichandranAshwin had faced a slight downfall when West Indian bowler Samuel Badree displaced the Indian off-spinner and returned back to No.1 position. In the tournament,Ashwin has so far only managed pick four wickets against Samuel Badree's record of clinching six wickets so far in the tournament. This made Ashwin slide down to third place while Badree saw a impressive rise to No.1 position once again. It would be match to expect between the number three ranked West Indies facing the toppers of the ranking table India on Thursday. While second ranked News Zealand is all set to face the fifth ranked English squad on Wednesday.

With its unbeaten run so far in the tournament New Zealand has earned six points and moved to second place with a total of 122 points from their initial position of fourth in the earlier rankings. The 2010 champions England have also stacked three points and are seven points behind the black caps. However India retained its position as well as their points by winning three of their four matches while their Semi-final opponents have gained two points and extended their total points to 120 and is separated only by seven points from the Indians.
