Hillary Clinton Tells Interviewer Lena Dunham That She Considers Herself A Feminist
The Democratic presidential candidate, Hillary Clinton, was interviewed by Lena Dunham for 'Letter Lenny', her new website and newsletter. When it was set to post Tuesday, the taped segment showed some comedy sketches with Clinton as well as a cameo by the comedian of the moment, Amy Schumer.
The interview gave Clinton a platform to talk about her campaign issues that interested Dunham's audience of young women, with issues such as student debt and women's heath, according to Politico.
One surprising question asked in the preview to the interview was: "Do you consider yourself a feminist?" Dunham asked Clinton.
"Yes, absolutely," responded Clinton. "I'm always a little bit puzzled when any woman of whatever age, but particularly a young woman, says something like, 'Well, I believe in equal rights but I'm not a feminist.' Well, a feminist is by definition someone who believes in equal rights. I'm hoping that people will not be afraid to say that doesn't mean you hate men, it doesn't [mean] you want to separate out the world, so you're not a part of ordinary life - that's not what it means at all! It just means that we believe that women have the same rights as men," according to HNGN.
Dunham had given a declaration of Lenny Letter along with "Girls" showrunner Jenny Konner. The preview for the newsletter has a short story by Dunham, a piece focusing on Sandra Bland and a request for stories about abortions before Roe v. Wade, reported Time.
