Top Gear Season 22 Update: Chris Evans Wants Women On Top Gear But Is BBC Ready?
If Top Gear presenter Chris Evans's has his way, a woman could well become his co-host. However BBC's bosses may not warm up to the idea.
According to BBC, Evans who stepped in as Jeremy Clarkson's replacement had said he would have at least one woman not for the sake of it but if someone really knew their cars, on BBC Radio 5. "Definitely, 100 percent" is what Evans had said when asked if his co-host could be a woman.
Contact Music quoted BBC Two head Kim Shillinglaw saying there would be no gender dikats on the show.
"It has always been a very male world hasn't it?" she told on BBC Radio 4.
"I really care about women on television. I really care how that sits in terms of the channel mix as a whole on BBC Two. I have never in my life thought about an individual show in terms of gender diktats and I certainly wouldn't start doing that now," she said.
Evans has announced auditions to find co-hosts after James May and Richard Hammond left the show following Clarkson's exit.
While it is not known if the show's producers will take a woman alongside Evans, model Jodie Kidd and Formula One presenter Suzi Perry are in the run.
