Alex Rodriguez's cousin and longtime personal assistant, Yuri Sucart, will be headed to jail for his involvement with the Biogenesis steroid case. Sucart was sentenced to seven months of prison Thursday morning by U.S. District Judge Cecilia M. Altonaga.

Sucart, 53, plead guilty to federal drug charges in relation to the Biogenesis case, which is the largest performance enhancing drug scandal in baseball history. The ring leader, Anthony Bosch, was sentenced to four years in prison for pretending to be a doctor at the Miami clinic.

After Sucart finishes his sentence, he will have to serve six months of house arrest. He will also have to pay a $5,000 fine. There is even a chance that Sucart can be deported to the Dominican Republic.

In court, Sucart reportedly apologized for his actions to the judge in Spanish. He said that he committed the crimes "out of ignorance and necessity."

''Mr. Sucart is one of the most important individuals in this case,'' assistant U.S. Attorney Sharad Motiani said. ''It wasn't only Alex Rodriguez. He provided it to other professional athletes, there's no dispute about that.''

The investigation led the MLB to suspend 14 players and Rodriguez was one of them. After serving the one-season suspension, Rodriguez is making an impressive comeback, freely swinging away for the New York Yankees.

The veteran has played in 51 games and is batting .270 with 48 hits, 27 RBIs and 11 homeruns.
